There is some rain but not as heavy as in summer. This is the time of the year when you will get literally clear views

September

Thimphu Tsechu
This three-day festival celebrates the defeat of the Tibetans in the 17th century and features four days of mask dancing in the Tashi chhoe Dzong.

Wangdue Tsechu
Three days of mask dancing is followed by the unfurling of a giant thangka. It overlaps with the Thimphu Tsechu.

Tamshing Choepa
Festivals are held at Tamshing Goemba and Thangbi Goempa after a three-day gap. Both festivals can fall in October.

 

October

Jampey Lhakhang Drup
This four day Jakar-Tsechu commemorates the establishment of this 7th-century temple. It features a “naked fire dance” at midnight.

Trekking
October is best time for trekking in Bhutan. It may be cold at higher elevations but you can get clear a view of snow-capped mountain passes.

November

Black-Necked Crane festival
Held on 11th November, this festival is held in Phobjikha. Local children perform dances in crane costumes before the Gangtey goemba to celebrate the winter return of the cranes.

Mongar Tsechu
This is a more local and intimate experience. Can fall in December.

Ngang Lhakhang Shey
Ngang Lhahang Shey is the Swan temple festival. It can also fall in December.
